On August 7 at 7:00 PM, the TheatreHD Opera Club at the GUM Cinema Hall presents the sunniest opera of them all – Rossini's delightful "L'Italiana in Algeri" – featuring the incredible Cecilia Bartoli and Ildar Abdrazakov, who create a witty and musically flawless commotion on the Salzburg stage.
Helping us make sense of all this delightful mayhem and resolve the battle of the sexes – and civilizations – will be our special guest: musicologist, critic, and lecturer Sergei Bulanov.

Playful, ironic, radiant, and sparkling like champagne, Rossini's opera buffa in any version is the ultimate mood-lifter. But the Salzburg production by Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier is pure creative adrenaline – and seriously addictive. At its heart is the madcap duo of Cecilia Bartoli and Ildar Abdrazakov. Only Cecilia can sing her showstopping aria while lying in a bubble bath, dazzling the audience not just with her elegance, but with flawless intonation and coloratura that soars from the lowest depths to the highest heights. Only Ildar can be ridiculously funny and impossibly charismatic at the same time.
And the period instruments of the French orchestra Ensemble Matheus, conducted by Jean-Christophe Spinosi, add a vibrant energy to the production, reminding us that Rossini's music belongs to every era.
